Propane is a safe and reliable fuel. However, it is flammable.
That means it can be dangerous if not handled properly!
In order to protect you, your family and others, we suggest that
before using propane for fueling your outdoor appliances you:
Read and follow the operating and lighting instructions; also read any warning labels provided by the manufacturer.
If the appliance has a pilot light that you have trouble keeping lit, this is a warning that you have a
problem. Do not use this appliance until you have taken it to a reliable dealer for servicing.
If the mantle in your lantern or interior RV light is cracked or broken, replace before using.
Ensure your propane cylinder and connections are not leaking by applying a soapy water
solution to all connections, and watch for bubbles.
If you smell propane (smells like rotten eggs) you have a leak! Immediately close the cylinder or supply valve,
and DO NOT attempt to light the appliance until you have found and corrected the source of the leak.
Treat your propane cylinder with RESPECT! Always ensure the cylinder is sitting in a secure
upright position whether you are transporting, using or storing it. Keep it in a well ventilated area, away from
sources of ignition such as campfires, and never store it inside your house or RV.
Take your propane cylinder to a reputable supplier such as Autogas Propane for
filling and/or repairs.
Do not leave disposable tanks behind, bring them for disposal at proper outlets.
Caution your propane supplier to:
be certain the new propane cylinder is purged of trapped air prior to the first filling.
be certain not to overfill the cylinder.
be certain the cylinder re-qualification date is checked.
be certain the cylinder is inspected for leaks and corrosion at each filling.
be certain that all RV pilot lights are turned off before refilling fixed RV tanks.
Give your propane cylinders and appliances a pre trip inspection before heading out. If you encounter anything that
you are not sure of, seek professional help from Autogas Propane employees.
Using these common sense tips will ensure you have a safe trip, and that your
propane cylinders and appliances will be trouble free, and last a long time!
